Jesus Storybook Bible Beginning
Last week we started working on some new lessons using the Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones. The art work in this Bible is beautiful and every story points back to Jesus as our Savior. I picked this particular children's Bible because A and E really like reading this one and I wanted to encourage them in their spiritual learning
When I first started brainstorming ideas for this unit I couldn't find much online. So, I decided to do my own. I was a teacher for awhile, so why not?!
When creating the lessons I wanted to include the following based on each story we read:
- A memory verse that relates back to the story.
- Some vocabulary from each story.
- At least one song. (I am trying to pick hymns because my kids listen to popular Christian songs on the radio and at church.)
- Something to tie to science, history and/or math.
- An art project, of course!
We have done one week and will let you know all about it soon!
Week 25 and 26: Y and Z and lots of changes too!
Well, I am a bit late in getting this up. I hope you will forgive me considering we have had some changes. The following are not the best pictures but they give you an idea.
Now for what we got done in between the time of these pictures. We finished off the alphabet with the letters Y and Z.
Our theme for the letter Y was yarn. Some of our vocab words were yellow, yak, young and year. We practiced the order of the months in the year by singing the month song the month macarena. We had some trouble finding Y books but A and E really liked Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni. (I know we read some others but I can't remember now. That's what I get for waiting so long to post this.)
Our Bible verse was "You are the God who sees." Genesis 16:13
For our math time we looked for yellow things and worked on measuring things with a yard stick.
Our science was a yellow warbler (bird), yarrow (flower), and a yak.
For our art time I drew a block Y on a piece of paper and then we used some yarn to fill in the letter.
For the letter Z our theme was zoo! Who doesn't likes seeing a bunch of animals? We visited a zoo this summer with a cousin and grandparents. We had fun remembering all of the animals we saw! Our vocab words were zipper and zero. I can't remember now what books we read with this lesson since so much time has passed!
For our Bible time we read about Zacharia and our verse was: "You are the light of the world." Matthew 5:14
For math we talked about zero.
For science we learned about zebras, zinnias, and zooplankton.
A also started learning how to use a zipper and E has recently started practicing too!
We unfortunately did not get to an art project because I became preoccupied with the arrival of...
After a brief break we have resumed school. Stay tuned for what we are up to now. We have been reading the Jesus Storybook Bible. I have been making some lessons to go along with our Bible reading.

Boy A! He was born on Dec 9th at 9 lbs 9 oz and 21 1/2 inches. We are so excited to be a family of five and all of the changes a little boy brings to life. |
